Dr. Thomas Shane is an Ophthalmologist who really cares about his patients. For whatever reason you come to see Dr. Shane and his staff, you will not leave unhappy. Dr. Shane performs some of the procedures at the office, however, there may be a need to book an actual surgery at one of the local hospitals he is a member of such as St. Andrews or Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Thomas Shane is well qualified and educated in his field of study. With a Bachelor of Science degree from Emery College followed by graduating at the head of his class at Washington University of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Shane went on to complete his residency program at the Bascom Palmer Eye institute in Miami, Florida; which according the US News &World Report is the Number #1 eye institute in the country. While Dr. Shane was completing his residency requirements, he also received an award for his outstanding research efforts; he received the Outstanding Achievement in Resident Research Award from the Florida State Society of Ophthalmology.
Dr Shane stayed on at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for two years following his residency to earn his vitreoretinal fellowship, and while he was doing so he also had the privilege of training with some of the most respected vitreoretinal surgeons in the United States. While at the Eye Institute he had the privilege of using some of the most high technology equipment for eye surgery there is; he also had the honor of becoming the Chief Resident and Director of Ocular Trauma Service at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
Dr. Thomas Shane is now a Board Certified member of the American Board of Ophthalmology; as he is also full member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.
He established the Retina Care Consultations, P.A. and is dedicated to giving each patient who comes through his doors the same compassion and respect as well as making himself available to these patients if they have any questions about their condition or the procedure he is about to perform on them.
